#The Story
A homeless man that thinks he’s a superhero befriends an ex-nursing student with a penchant for drugs on the streets of Cleveland, Ohio. The unlikely pair find themselves bouncing from one mishap to another, all while trying to make a small but positive difference in the lives of those they encounter. A hero the city neither needs nor deserves, Captain Suave is a man out of time determined to be a Golden Age superhero. Not unlike Don Quixote of Cervantes’s classic tale, this hero will straddle the line between insanity and benevolence.
Along with his sidekick, Champ, Captain Suave will battle the imaginary forces of evil threatening the fair city of Cleveland. Stopping a wind turbine he mistakes for a hydra from demolishing the city, saving unwitting damsels in distress, and even thwarting real-life robbers, no evildoer is safe from the awesome and quixotic might of Captain Suave!
Why is this important?
A singular take on the superhero genre: Paying tribute to Cleveland’s storied history in comic books, Captain Suave is a hero like no other. Though he is only a superhero of the mind, he will show readers that it doesn’t take superpowers to do what’s right and help others.
Classic literary elements: Blending Golden Age superheroes with Don Quixote, this is a modern take on the Miguel de Cervantes classic, sure to excite both comic book and classic literature readers alike.
Unique visuals: Incorporating both hand-painted watercolors and digital coloring, different artistic styles depict the hero’s fantasy versus what’s happening in reality on the page. Employing a digital dot pattern evoking a Golden Age style of comic book coloring, what the hero believes is happening has a distinctly different feel from the real, painted world.

#Testimonials
“Featuring imaginative, detailed illustrations by Kelly Williams and careful lettering work by Taylor Esposito.” - Annie Nickoloff, Cleveland.com
“This is my new favorite book, this is on top of the pile now…My favorite indie book of the year.” - Dakota Crosse, Zig At The Gig podcast
"Captain Suave is an intoxicating mix of genre-splicing comics…where a semi-demented “American Splendor”-type everyman believes he’s a super-heroic caped crusader on a hallucinatory/actual quest to save the down-trodden. And, perhaps, if C.S. is lucky, reclaim some pieces of his fractured mind. Reading Captain Suave feels like drinking a bottle of your favorite wine and then chasing it with a can of Red Bull: you don’t know where you’re going, but you know that the trip’ll be quite an amusing adventure!" - Gary Dumm, American Splendor
