Two inter-dimensional travellers, who come from a parallel Earth where clothes don’t exist, crash land on an Earth very similar to ours circa 1950s. As they go about fixing their ship, they learn about this Earth and explore our complicated relationship with nudity and our human bodies.
If you’re a fan of 50s/60s comics, whether it is the sci-fi stuff like Strange Tales, or the light, humorous, slice-of-life stuff like Archie, then Diary of the Astro-Nudes is definitely for you!
A 32-page comic containing all Astro-Nudes stories previously published online, re-mastered for print, in addition to a new prologue, supplementary material, and more!
*Special note: Shipping will be out of the UK, so if you're in the U.S. you'll notice shipping rates are a little higher than usual. We've counter-acted this by offering the rewards at the very lowest pricing possible -- so the combined fee should still be in a range you're used to paying for crowdfunded comics :)

DIARY OF THE ASTRO-NUDES is a retro sci-fi/slice of life comic that takes inspiration from 50s comic books like Strange Tales, shows like My Favourite Martian and 1960s nudist camp films. It is about two inter-dimensional travellers who come from a parallel Earth where clothes don’t exist, and crash land on an Earth very similar to ours, circa 1950s. As they go about fixing their ship, they learn about this Earth, and explore our complicated relationship with nudity and our human bodies.
Diary of the Astro-Nudes is my first comics writing project. Before that I had never written comics before - I had only worked as artist with other writers. It is also a project that comes from a personal place -- as someone who has been calling himself a casual nudist for a long time I've always wanted to explore the topic in comics form, and as someone who is a fan of 60s comics (and all things retro really) I've always wanted to do something with that aesthetic, but never got the opportunity to.
This comic started as a series of illustrations that I was posting online, then evolved into a series of short stories (or strips, no pun intended!) that I started publishing in December 2020. With this print edition, I am collecting the stories that ran online, re-mastered for print, together with never seen before pages that connect the overall narrative together, supplementary material, and more! And with your help, I will be able to bring this comic to paper, along with other cool rewards that I have planned!
Ahmed Raafat is a UK-based Egyptian comic book artist. He is one of the creators of El-Osba, an Egyptian superhero team that is the ancient land's response to the Avengers and Justice League combined, and Gorilla My Dreams, a noir comic about the adventures of a talking detective/superhero gorilla, and is the writer/artist of this comic! Ahmed has also been an active member of the indie comic book scene since 2016, with several collaborations with indie writers and small press publishers. His most recent work includes illustrations for the Netflix movie The Old Guard, covers for Source Point Press and work on Tales from the Quarantine anthology.
$3,000 - Black Light Poster - UNLOCKED!!!
$4,500 - Sticker Pack
The comic itself is complete, and arrangements have been made with a comic printing house to print the comic, so upon funding of the campaign/receipt of funds the comic is ready to go to print. Estimated delivery is June 2022.
There is no conceivable reason this comic doesn't ship as planned. However, if the last two years have taught us anything, it is that the whole world can go upside down very quickly. So there is always the risk of an unexpected hurdle that comes my way, but I can promise to keep you in the loop every step.
Aaaaand we’ve reached the end of the campaign now! First of all, a BIG thank you to everyone who supported the campaign in the weeks leading to and during its run, not just by pre-ordering but also retweeting, sharing, this wouldn’t have happened without YOU!
And thank you you @WeAreZoop for hosting the campaign! You have been wonderful helping me out set up the campaign, offering advice about goals, etc. - it was like having my own personal consultant! This being my first solo campaign every bit of advice was needed.
Special shoutout to @MattPHardy and @BigTimStiles for helping me out with budgeting, promotion and preparing campaign assets - I have bugged them with so many questions during the weeks leading to the campaign and they were always there to the rescue!
And also a special shoutout to @CPUK for helping me out with the production side, and all the advice about the best ways to bring this book to life. And also, for all the kind words that’s always put a glowing smile on my face!
And last but not least, special thanks to @CdbPod, @crititalk, @Reading_Hix and @anthpollock for hosting me on their shows to talk about the campaign, and to @Fanbase_Press for their article. And hopefully I will be back again with another comic/campaign!
Once again, THANK YOU ALL for making this campaign successful! Now, easy part is over, hard part is up next: printing and shipping!
When the campaign launched yesterday, I was nervously refreshing the campaign page for the first few minutes, and nothing was happening, and I started to panic… then the numbers started going up little by little, and I let out a sigh of relief.
But, BUT, in no way I expected us to hit the funding goal in the first 24 hours! And you, you made this happen! Those who backed our campaign, those who shared it, retweeted it, talked about it, told their friends about it - you made this happen. So, a BIG THANK YOU!
But we are not done yet, because now is the time for: our first STRETCH GOAL!
In the spirit of all things retro, backers on physical tiers (print copy and print copy + print set) will also receive a BLACK LIGHT POSTER* in the same style as those sweet Marvel 70s black light posters once we hit $3,000! No extra charges!
And once again, thank you all! As this is my first crowdfunding campaign and my first solo project as a comic creator, it really means a lot!
*Note from Zoop: check out the Black Light Poster in the Stretch Goals section -- we want that so badly, so let's get there!!!
Zoop does not store or keep your credit card info. Stripe simply holds the credit card info until the end of a successful campaign and then charges it. It is strictly for this one time use and won't charge it ever again.
We use Stripe for checkout because it is VERY secure. They exceed industry security standards and are trusted by thousands of companies, including Amazon, Lyft, Slack, Shopify, and Airbnb, who use Stripe's software tools to accept payments. Their interface is pre-made by them and we don't have the ability to augment it in any way. Once there, you have 15 minutes to complete the transaction by hitting the 'SAVE CARD' button.
If the campaign doesn't fund, your pre-order will be canceled, and the pending charge will disappear. You'll get an email confirmation with a summary of rewards and charges both after the initial pledge and after the actual charging of the card (try looking in your spam folder if you don't happen to see it in your inbox).
Please e-mail us at email@example.com and we'll get right back to you!
You could e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org with that info during the campaign if you'd like to get it out of the way. Otherwise, we'll be reaching out to all supporters of rewards that require feedback shortly after the campaign is over.
Our campaigns are for a worldwide audience unless stated otherwise in the campaign. All international orders are sold with the terms DAP (Delivered At Place). You are responsible for any duties and taxes required for the shipment's entry into your country. Our carriers may require you to pay taxes and fees related to importation and customs brokerage of your shipment -- but if your item is really low in value, it may fall under the customs de minimis of most countries. For more information, please contact USPS
Since we have an a la carte rewards system, shipping rates will vary from supporter to supporter. We use a weight-based calculation system in your checkout cart, though, so, after you enter your country, you'll be able to see it calculated in real time with each item you add.
If you want to make changes, you should first cancel your original order and then start over with a new one. If you don't do that and simply process an additional order, the way our system is currently set up you may end up being overcharged for shipping -- which we could remedy for you, but it just takes that extra step of catching it and crediting you back the extra shipping, so please try the prior way first.
No - this is it! We're essentially your in-campaign pledge manager. If you are interested in supporting these creators, this is the time to do it! And it's the exact reason we allow you to purchase as many rewards as you want during the campaign!
Rewards are the priority items that the creators have chosen for the campaign. Add-Ons are meant to be secondary items that are 'unlocked' after you buy something from the Reward level. There are no restrictions on buying Rewards, but you can only buy Add-Ons if you've bought a Reward. Zoop sets this up under the direction of the creators. Some may choose to only have Rewards, some may choose an even balance of Rewards and Add-Ons, and others may choose to only have one or two Rewards with the rest of the items being Add-Ons.
YES! We encourage you to get more than 1 item! That could be multiple copies of the same reward, or you can mix and match rewards! There is no limit, unless otherwise stated in the reward description.
