"Squid Williams is a sailor, a brawler, and a man who never bets against himself. Stuck in the Dragon’s Triangle with pirates, monsters, and a woman full of secrets, he’ll have to fight his way out—or go down swinging."
Hi, my name is Dan Thompson. I am a cartoonist working in newspaper comics on a feature called Rip Haywire, a humorous adventure strip. I have also worked on a children’s graphic novel series called Tig and Lily by Random House Kids.
There’s something I love about a good story, and for me, it’s the classic wanderer found in pulp magazines and old crime novels that I’ve always loved. Whether the character is a private eye, cowboy, bank robber, barbarian, or even a lord of the jungle, there’s an appealing quality to them.
That’s where my two-fisted, short-tempered, one-eyed sailor comes in. Squid Williams was born from these wanderers.
In the first issue of the 28-page comic book, Squid Williams struggles to survive another night on the high seas when caught in a web of deadly secrets. Faced with bloodthirsty pirates, vengeful sea devils, and a woman who may be more than she appears, Squid is in over his head—literally—armed with nothing but grit, a machete, and a bad attitude.
The art is crafted in a retro comic style, fused with the ruggedness of a pulp-style sailor. Each issue of Squid Williams will feature a complete story and additional fun content that will equal 28 pages.
